SMTP API tracking and metrics

We’re looking into the Transactional Email addon, and although we’re hoping to rely primarily on the HubSpot UI and Single-Send API, we may still need to use the SMTP API. I see from the API docs that emails sent via the SMTP API are “wrapped with the HubSpot tracking codes that allow full engagement tracking and measurement, so you can see the performance within HubSpot.”

What does that look like in the HubSpot UI? My point of reference is the UI in Marketing > Content > Email. Specifically:

  • How does it compare to emails built in the Design Manager, and sent via Workflows?
  • How are emails sent via the SMTP API identified and aggregated?
  • Is there any way to group similar emails?
